Birthday...Christmas...New Year's dress
Firstly:
This came in the post a week or so ago. It's a colour card for Jamieson's shetland wool. I want to try out some Fair Isle designing. I think I'll get a few balls in colours I like and play at swatching them - perhaps I'll make a tam, since there is a clipping posted in my LYS that says berets are in style again (and I don't think it's a clipping from 1992 or anything).
Secondly:
Here is the dress I'm making for Kittycat's birthday. Well, actually, since that is less than a week away the dress may have to be for Christmas. Or perhaps New Year. I've actually done a bit more than this now - the colour part is finished, and I'm on the almost plain knitting (there is a very sparse eyelet pattern).
I cast on 396 (count 'em) stitches for the skirt. I used a long tail cast on. That was one long tail, I can tell you.
Mousie pants progress report: I finished one leg, saw how long they were and decided I should do this dress first, since she will probably grow out of it faster. I'm also hoping to make a toque for my husband for Christmas and I have a sweater for him that I thought I had finished, but the sleeves are too short, so I've made extra bits for the cuffs and just need to graft on the second one. It doesn't look ideal, but it works OK and he'll finally wear the sweater I began 2 years ago!

Just have to ask: what is a toque?
Oh - it's a woolly hat :) I never knew that word before moving to Canada!
Let me know if you'd like a pattern for a Scottish tam. I have a booklet with a pattern I would gladly send to you if you'd like it. I think the one I have is just very plain but I suppose you could adapt it to a fair isle pattern if you wanted.
Ooh, thanks - that would be lovely!
